Only a meeting organizer and a teacher or a school administrator has the ability to record meetings.  NOTE: This will record only the person talking and the shared screen  It will not record all participants in a Tile (grid) view.  If you want to record ALL Participants, then follow the advanced tip below.

  1. Open Meet and start or join a meeting.
  2. Click More Moreand thenRecord meeting.

  3. Wait for the recording to start.  
    Other participants are notified when the recording starts or stops.
  4. Click More Moreand thenStop recording when you finish.
    • The recording also stops when everyone leaves the meeting.
  5. Click Stop recording again to verify.
  6. Wait for the recording file to be generated and saved to the meeting organizer’s My Drive > Meet Recordings folder. An email with the recording link is also sent to the meeting organizer and the person who started the recording.

This is a workaround that can be done on a laptop or computer.


Google Meet: Monitoring Students and Answering Questions
  1. Use Google Meet’s native Tile View to view up to 49 students. 

    1. At the bottom right, click More Customize and control Google Chrome and then Change layout . Choose an option:

      1. By default, you’ll see 16 tiles on your screen.

      2. At the bottom of the window, move the slider to the number of tiles you want to see on your screen.


  1. Once you have your Google Meet setup for your Final Evaluation, the way you want it (Tile View), open a second tab.

  2. In the second tab, start a Google Meet with only you in it.

  3. In this second Google Meet with only you in it, choose "Present Now" and choose "A Tab"

  4. In the list of tabs to choose from, select the Final Evaluation Google Meet tab (the meet with students in it).

  5. Once you are presenting your Final Evaluation Google Meet ( the second Google Meet), press Record

    1. Click MoreCustomize and control Google Chrome and thenRecord meeting.

    2. IMPORTANT: Do not close this second tab. Since you are the only one in the second meet, you must leave it open for it to record.
